I was extremely proud and honoured to be chosen to be a torch bearer as well as the one to light the Cauldron during the Canada Festivities in Barrhaven. I had to keep it a secret for months that I was chosen to light the cauldron.

Canada Day in Barrhaven should live up to its reputation as the premier family friendly July 1 celebration in Nepean this year with its midway, live entertainment, vendors and fireworks.

And as if those attractions were not enough to draw a crowd, up to 25,000 people are projected to enjoy this free day-long party and they can expect a special treat this year as the event hosts the Pan Am torch relay.

Darrell Bartraw, co-chair for Mattamy Homes Canada Day in Barrhaven, said the relay has been in the works since Pan Am staff appeared at the 2014 Canada Day celebration in Barrhaven to discuss incorporating the relay into the 2015 celebration.
