Canada Day Flag Parade

Happy Canada day everyone!!! :)  Yesterday, I was extremely honoured to be a part of the Opening Ceremonies at Clark Park in Barrhaven. This park is always packed with people from all over the community of Nepean. Thousands of people come for the fair, outdoor concerts, amazing fireworks and food.  I was asked to carry the Canadian flag in the “Ceremony of flags” while the National Anthem was sung by Tammy Raybould.  The Provincial flags were carried in, in order of their date joining the Confederation.  This year the ceremony was slightly different because Youths were added to the Flag Parade as well as some Lions Club Members. Mr. David Cole, the Sergeant of Arms at the Barrhaven Legion says that we are starting a new legacy -”Youth is Our Legacy”.   It felt amazing to be considered as part of this.  The other youths carrying provincial flags were Cadets, Scouters and Guides.

I appreciated the lesson of the etiquette and proper form of carrying, holding and dipping the flag for the ceremony.

It was fascinating and interesting talking to the Politicians back stage.   I always look forward to spending time with them since there is always so much to talk about.

Councillor Jan Harder, MPP Lisa McLeod and MP Pierre Poilivere were all present at the Ceremonies as well. I did a fundraiser with MPP McLeod in the past and it was great! Her daughter has actually recently started martial arts and wanted a few tips so of course I wanted to spend time with her. :p

I had fun playing with MP Poilivere too.  He kept asking me to show him some kicks.

Canada day was awesome this year! I was honored to be recognized and congratulated for my past efforts, and now look forward to Spain for the World Championships this October.

It was a day of reflection and of inspiration for future experiences. I look forward to wearing my Taekwon-Do uniform with pride since it has Canada written on the back of it.  I hope I’ll have the opportunity to hold the Canadian Flag high again on the podium in Spain :)

Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion and Mr. David Cole for giving me this incredible opportunity.
